Celebrating Arab American Heritage at RMP: Samy Alkaihal

Samy Alkaihal celebrates being a proud Arab American

Samy Alkaihal Celebrates Arab American Heritage and Culture at RMP

To celebrate Arab American Heritage Month at RMP, we’re highlighting the beauty of Arab American culture and identity at our schools. Samy Alkaihal, Director of Family and Community Partnerships at RMP, helps us understand what it’s like to be a proud Arab American.

Samy was born in Morocco but raised in Denver, Colorado. This split between cultures and environments forced Samy to adapt and find beauty in having two identities. From the food, people, culture, and environment, Samy has been able to stay rooted in his Arabic pride despite being born in America. Experiencing traditional celebrations like Ramadan in Morocco is a beautiful cultural moment that Samy says is really amazing to witness.

Samy talks about his experience being Moroccan-American, growing up split between both cultures, and the beauty he finds in Moroccan heritage. Samy recounts having to learn different languages and cultures as a young child, as a key pillar in Moroccan culture. The cultural experiences of his home in Morocco help him appreciate and connect with a variety of cultures, languages, and people.
