At Rocky Mountain Prep (RMP), we know that success doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built with purpose – when students, families, and teachers come together around a shared vision for the future. That’s why this year, we are launching the Summit Series, a reimagined model of student-led conferences designed to prepare every child for the journey from kindergarten to college.
For Samy AlKaihal, RMP’s Director of Family Empowerment, this is more than a new schedule on the calendar. It’s a commitment to families and their dreams for their children.
“We started the Summit Series because we believe every student deserves a voice in shaping their future,” Samy shares. “These are not just conferences. They are opportunities to connect, celebrate, and build stronger partnerships between home and school.”
Why the Summit Series Matters
Traditional parent-teacher conferences often leave students on the sidelines. Teachers talk, families listen, and students rarely take ownership of their learning. RMP wanted something different – something that gave students the chance to lead, families the chance to contribute, and teachers the chance to guide.
That’s where the Summit Series begins. Five times a year, students meet with their families and teachers to reflect on growth, set goals, and map their path forward. Each gathering is a checkpoint on the journey to RMP’s Graduate Guarantee: that every scholar leaves prepared with the skills, confidence, and support to pursue the college or career of their choice.
Samy explains why this shift matters:
“When families, students, and staff come together in this way, we’re not just tracking progress – we’re building a movement. A movement where every child sees that their voice matters, their goals are real, and their community is walking alongside them to college.”
What Families, Students, and Teachers Can Expect
The Summit Series is designed to serve every grade level, with intentional roles for all involved:
- Students (K–12): Lead the conversation by reflecting on progress, sharing goals, and practicing skills like communication, leadership, and self-advocacy.
- Families: Partner in the process by sharing hopes, insights, and questions. Families leave each Summit with clarity on how to support learning at home.
- Teachers: Provide guidance and resources, ensuring alignment between classroom learning, family support, and long-term readiness.
To help everyone prepare, we’ve created a Summit Series Guide for Each Group:
- Family Guide: All Families
- Student Guide: Grades K–4
- Student Guide: Grades 5–8
- Student Guide: Grades 9–12

These resources make it clear what to expect, how to prepare, and how each role contributes to a successful conference.
A Roadmap for College Readiness
Each Summit is designed to keep college readiness in focus from the very beginning. Whether in kindergarten or senior year, students learn that the choices they make now shape the opportunities they will have later.
Every Summit creates space to:
- Check Progress: Review milestones and reflect on growth.
- Set Goals: Identify next steps for academics and personal growth.
- Build Skills: Strengthen reflection, leadership, and accountability.
- Strengthen Relationships: Deepen the connection between families and schools.
By holding these five times a year, RMP builds a steady rhythm of accountability and celebration that keeps students on track for the future they deserve.
Looking Ahead
The first Summit Series conference will be held next week, August 25–29, with additional weeks in October, January, March, and May. Families can select the time that works best for them, ensuring access and flexibility for all.
At its core, the Summit Series is not just about academics. It’s about belonging, partnership, and possibility. It’s about ensuring that every child – from their very first days in kindergarten to their final steps as seniors – has a team of champions helping them reach their hopes and dreams.
